Dress Code Policy

The uniform dress code applies to all students in Grades K-8.  The parents have approved a standard of student dress which promotes dignity, distinction, cleanliness and good health.  If for some valid reason a student is not able to adhere to the dress code, a dated, written note from parents is required.  Student’s clothing and belongings are required to be labeled with the student’s name.  Failure to follow proper dress code will result in a uniform slip, which must be signed by a parent.  Our uniform supplier is BLAKE’S SCHOOL UNIFORM CO., 1205 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129, Tel. (413) 782-4123.  Uniforms can be purchased directly at the store or by mail.  Uniform order forms, which include the prices and directions to the store, can be obtained at the school office.   

Grades K-6 (Girls)

White tailored blouse with short or long sleeves (top button must always be buttoned) and wine/grey plaid jumper.  The uniform wine cardigan sweater or school sweatshirt must be worn over the blouse when wearing the school uniform SLACKS.  Optional:  Grey uniform slacks with a belt may be worn from November lst to March 3lst. 

Wine or white knee socks or ankle socks or leotards must be  worn.  (l/4 length sport socks are not permitted).  Comfortable dress shoes are to be worn.  Sneakers are worn only on gym days.  Sneakers with wheels (heelys), sandals, clogs, crocs, jogging shoes and boots are not to be worn in school. 

Makeup, excessive jewelry, or nail polish is not permitted.  Only stud earrings may be worn.  Large earrings are not permitted.  Students wearing inappropriate jewelry will be asked to remove it. 

Grades 7-8 (Girls)

All girls are attired in a white oxford blouse with sort or long sleeves.  (the top button on the blouse must always be buttoned.)  The uniform wine/grey plaid skirt and the wine colored  sweater vest must be worn together.  The school sweatshirt may be worn with the uniform.  Optional:  Grey uniform slacks with a belt may be worn.

Grey uniform slacks with a belt are required (purchased from the uniform company).  Socks are to be worn under the slack/pants (l/4 length sport socks are not permitted).  Sneakers are worn only on gym days. Sneakers with wheels (heelys),  sneaker shoes, jogging shoes and boots are not to be worn in school.  Grey, black or white socks must be worn.  Wine uniform cardigan sweater may be worn with the uniform.  The school sweatshirt may be worn in place of a sweater.

Grades 4, 5 & 6  (Boys))

Grey uniform slacks with a belt  are required (purchased from the uniform company).   Socks are to be worn under the slacks/pants.  Grey, black or white socks must be worn.  ( l/4 length sport socks are not permitted)  Sneakers (worn only on gym days), sneaker shoes, sneakers with wheels (heelys), jogging shoes and boots are not to be worn in school.  A wine uniform cardigan sweater may be worn with the uniform.  The school sweatshirt may be worn in place of a sweater.

Grade 7 & 8 (Boys)

Earrings and excessive jewelry are not permitted. 

SHOES AND SNEAKERS

Shoe boots are not to be worn in the school.  The students should have another pair of shoes to wear during the inclement weather when shoe boots are worn from home to school.  This prohibits the wearing of hiking boots, thermal boots, construction boots, ski boots and sneakers in class. 

When purchasing school shoes and gym sneakers (sneakers with wheels are not allowed), please be sure they have non-scuff soles. Scuff marks are being found in stairwells, on carpets and in the bathrooms.  It is getting increasingly difficult to remove these marks on a daily basis.  It is our collective responsibility to ensure the up-keep of the school.  Thank you for you r understanding, support and cooperation. 

HAIR (All Students)

Fashionable hairdos are to be modest.  Hair is to be no longer than collar length for boys.  Hair stenciling, fad hairdos, coloring, highlighting, bleaching or streaking hair is not allowed.  Any infraction will result in suspension until the hairstyle is corrected.  STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR HATS IN SCHOOL. 

BODY ART

No tattoos (permanent or temporary) are allowed. 

GYM OUTFIT

The specific gym outfit to be worn by all students is as follows: 

School gym shirt and solid maroon shorts (Grades 4-8) ordered through the uniform company or grey sweatpants (Grades K-8).  Non-scuff or white-soled sneakers must be worn.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Colored soles mark the gym floor.  Sneakers must have laces that are tied.   No sneakers with wheels (heelys),  no platform or other fashion sneakers may be worn.   This is to ensure the safety of our students.  PRIMARY AND  INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS ARE PERMITTED TO WEAR THEIR SNEAKERS TO SCHOOL ON GYM DAY ONLY. 

The maroon colored school uniform sweatshirt  may be worn with the school or gym uniform. 

Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 need to bring deodorant.  No hair care products or aerosol deodorants are allowed

All students are to take gym classes unless excused by a note from their physician.  Students who come unprepared for gym class will not be allowed to participate and will receive a lower grade. 

DRESS-DOWN DAYS

Throughout the year students earn dress-down days.  Students may wear:  casual slacks, jeans, sweatpants, sweat and T-shirts (shirts with inappropriate, unacceptable or offensive sayings are not allowed), sport shirts, jerseys with sleeves and sneakers. Socks must always be worn. 

Students may not wear: tank tops, sleeveless tops, bike pants, short skirts, shirts with inappropriate sayings or pictures, sneakers with wheels (heelys), sandals, clogs, crocs, makeup, fingernail polish or excessive jewelry. 

Shorts are not permitted unless the Principal has given special permission.  When shorts are permitted they should be the solid maroon school uniform shorts.  Students who are inappropriately dressed will have to call home/parents and have their uniforms brought to school.
